Application of tablets and pastes

Nutritional supplements sometimes contain ingredients with an unpleasant taste. We have made amiQure supplements more palatable for your dog or cat by enriching them with a natural high-quality flavour enhancer.
Although the supplements have been extensively (and successfully) tested for acceptance, it may be that your dog or cat will not take the tablet or paste. He/she is not alone; some people also have trouble swallowing. We wish to emphasize the AmiQure products are no snacks or treats, but developed for attacking disorders effectively. For this reason the products contain high dosages of active nutrients, which are not always palatable.

Tips for applying amiQure dog tablets:
  • give him the tablet along with some food; usually this causes no further problems;
  • smear some (peanut) butter on the tablet; this makes it easier to swallow;
  • grind the tablet to a powder (between two spoons) and mix it through the food;
  • if the food is slightly warmed its smell and taste will predominate over the supplement.
Another method is to give the dog the tablet as follows:
Have the dog sit comfortably in a familiar place. Open its mouth with one hand, then push the tablet as far towards the back of the throat as possible with the other hand. Close the mouth and hold the nose up while stroking the throat to stimulate the swallowing reflex with the other hand. Swallowing and licking the lips is a sign that the tablet has been swallowed. Give your dog a reward as an encouragement for the next time.

For an optimal result it’s best to follow the advised dosages.

Tips for applying amiQure cat pastes:
As cats are very finicky eaters, it might be the case your cat refuses eating the paste (licking from its paws or nozzle). In this case you can give it the paste along with some food; if the food is slightly warmed its smell and taste will predominate over the paste.

Another method is to give the cat the paste as follows:
Have the cat sit comfortably in a familiar place. Position one hand at the top of the cats head, the forefinger just above the eyes. Than bend your thumb and forefinger across the eyes and softly press the bones below the eyes. Slowly move the cats nose up, the cat will open its mouth. With the other hand you put the paste as far towards the back of the throat as possible, close the mouth and hold the nose up while stroking the throat to stimulate the swallowing reflex with the other hand.

Determining body weight:
On the internet and a wide variety of books you’ll find the average weight of the most common dog and cat breeds. You can also either place the dog or cat on a scale, or stand on the scale while holding the dog or cat, then subtract your weight from the total.
